Why the name?
A pearl in the middle of Africa.
In 1907, Winston Churchill travelled through Uganda and was struck by its fertile green landscapes, abundant wildlife, mountain ranges, and the Nile. In his travel book My African Journey, he called it “the Pearl of Africa”—a name inspired by the country’s beauty and extraordinary variety.
The name still feels right. Uganda’s richness is not only in what you can see, but in the welcome you receive: a generous, lively spirit that makes room for visitors and turns a place into a memory.
